How Does the Cold Laser Help Me

Low-Level Lasers (Cold Laser)

Low-level lasers are much different than the lasers that are most publicized which produce tremendous heat and can cut and cauterize tissue as seen in a surgical application. Low-level lasers or cold lasers do not have a thermal effect (they are not hot) and are used to stimulate, rather than destroy tissue. These lasers have been around for over twenty-five years, and there has yet to be one reported adverse effect. Low level lasers have proven to be effective in many different kinds of cases, but the ERCHOCIA™ laser that we use here at Portland Chiropractic made history by becoming the first low-level laser in the world to receive FDA clearance for the treatment of chronic neck pain. This was proven in very stringent double-blind controlled studies to prove how well the ERCHONIA™ laser works on chronic pain.

How Does it Work?

A laser is basically a focused beam of light that emits energy. When the light is focused properly, all of its energy is traveling in the same direction and at the same wave length; this is called coherent light.

The cold laser emits a visible coherent light that is applied to the affected area. Bundles of light energy pass through the different layers of the skin and are received within the cell membrane. The cell then releases very important enzymes that initiate several life improving biological processes. Within the injured tissue, the light from our cold laser initiates increased micro-circulation and enhanced tissue regeneration. The overall results are decreased pain and inflammation and increased range of motion with improved flexibility.

Some Areas of Improvement

Low-level laser therapy is a painless treatment for acute and chronic pain in a number of areas without negative side effects. These include but are not limited to:

  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
  • Chronic Pain―Neck, Back, Leg, Shoulder
  • Tennis Elbow
  • Golfers Elbow
  • Rotator Cuff Injury
  • Joint Pain―Hand, Foot, Knee, Ankle, Shoulder
  • Other Musculoskeletal Injuries like Sprains and Strains

Life Enhancement

The cold laser has been shown to work on chronic, as well as acute, injuries. Just think― what might it be able to do for you toward improving your health? The cold laser stimulates cells to work more efficiently. Wouldn’t it be nice if your cells (the main unit of all living tissue) were working more efficiently? Wouldn’t you have more energy and be healthier?
